Austin is one big, dog-friendly community. With eleven off-leash dog parks open each day from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., pet owners love this city. While most of the city is dog-friendly, there are some neighborhoods in Austin that are like a pet paradise. Here are some neighborhoods you and your pet might enjoy:
Downtown Austin may seem like a surprising place to find many four-legged friends, but it is actually quite dog-friendly. Quietly nestled among the thriving businesses and luxury condos sits the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail. This is ten miles of community backyard in the downtown area, and an excellent exercise spot for Spot! Several off-leash dog parks in the downtown Austin area mean there is plenty of room to run. Some of these parks have water access. This can be a great way for furry friends to cool off in the south Texas heat. Downtown Austin is beautiful, and it is not uncommon for coffee houses and cafes to have outdoor seating for residents and their pets. In addition, many of the downtown luxury condos offer concierge service that includes dog walking for busy pet owners.
Another excellent neighborhood for pooch parents is Granada Hills: a suburb just to the west of Austin. Granada hills is a quiet, shady neighborhood with lovely tree-lined streets. It is just perfect for taking long walks. Large home lots provide large yards for dogs to romp and play, and wildlife such as deer and squirrels may pique your pet’s curiosity.
Hyde Park, just north of the University of Texas, is also wild about dogs. Shipe Park is adjacent to the neighborhood and is a popular place for pet owners to take their beloved pet for some exercise. Like downtown proper, it is not uncommon to see pet owners taking long walks along neighborhood streets, or having coffee with their furry friend at a local eatery. Austin prides itself on being eco- and animal-friendly, and that shows in the many accommodations for pet owners and their four-legged companions.
